This year sees two walking challenges in aid of Myisrael.

28th June 2026 will mark the first challenge, which is for Bar and Bat Mitzvah-aged students.  They will walk 24km with their parents, raising funds to mark their special year.

On 6th September, we are repeating last year’s full Marathon walk along the Thames Path, with a Half-Marathon option for teens or novice distance walkers.

Both events are expected to be a sell-out and an epic adventure!

The Myisrael Giant Bar/Bat Mitzvah walk

28th June 2026

Join the Myisrael and Giant Walk teams on an endurance walking day in Hertfordshire for Bar and Bat Mitzvah aged fundraisers. This challenge day is to be completed by the young person along with a parent (or two!).

In teams of two or more (Y7/8 plus parent) we will walk 24 kms across flat countryside in Hertfordshire in a day on an epic adventure. It’s a fully supported and professionally led walk, with picnic lunch, snacks and water included.

There will be cheering points along the route, for family and friends to come and support you.

The Myisrael Giant Walk

6th September 2026

Last year we completed an epic full marathon distance walk along the Thames path – a very serene waterside day of walking whilst fundraising. Everybody felt very supported by the Giant Walk crew, and bus – so we are doing it all again! Spaces are limited, and you can sign up as a single, or in a team of 4. Teens and novice walkers have a half marathon option too.

FAQs

Yes,  a coach will leave from a meeting point in NW London to take walkers to the start of each event. The event will be supported by the coach all day, meaning walkers can store their belongings and change kit. The coach will have a WC on board and will meet walkers several times during the day.

Firstly, you should buy tickets for the same event day! Then the best way to ensure you walk with your friends is to enter as a group. Otherwise, please let us know who you would like to walk with and we will put you together (subject to maximum group size).

We will provide details of the finish point, along with any cheering points, so that family and friends can come and greet you at the end of the event.

This is an endurance walk, and you must have prepared for it. We ask that you have a good basic fitness and have undertaken some training in the run up to the event.

For the Bar/Bat Mizvah walk, some practice walks of 10-12km are recommended in the run up to the event.

A good rule of thumb for the full Marathon distance is that you should have completed at least one 20km training walk in the shoes you plan to wear on the day. It is also important that you practice changing layers of clothes on the move and train with a weighted rucksack.

WC's along the route will be marked out in the event guide, and group mentors will know where they are.

Our coach will also have a WC on board and be available at the rest points.

We discourage treating this event as a race, but you are welcome to time yourself. Groups will be formed with similarly able walkers, and you can switch groups at check points if needed. There is no chip timing- completion of the challenge and raising of funds for MyIsrael are the main priorities.

There are checkpoints at the rest stops along the route, where the coach will be waiting. If any walker is struggling to meet time checks, they may be asked to either leapfrog forward to the next point, or remain in the vehicle.

These checkpoints aim to ensure a maximum 10-hour completion time for the full marathon distance. Your welfare is being monitored both on the move and at rest stops.

We have a no quibble cancellation policy up to 7 days before the event, and your entry fee will be returned in full minus any platform or card fees deducted. Once inside the 7 day period, no refunds are available but you can transfer onto a future event.

Fashion or gym trainers are not suitable, but heavy walking boots are not necessarily required as all the terrain is level and on footpaths. A good running trainer or trail shoe, or lightweight walking boots are ideal. Tips will be circulated based on the weather in the days before.

There is no minimum fundraising target but Myisrael asks that you set-up a fundraising page through them and circulate it to your family and friends. They will be in touch with you about this.

Young people may wish to ask for donations in lieu of presents.

A GPX (satnav) file will be available in advance. Group mentors and leaders will have this available and are tracked, and although the route is pretty straightforward, key signposts will be on site at junctions. All mentors will have GPS and radio support from Event Control and there will be chalk markings. There is also a tracking beacon on the bus.

Young walkers (Year 7 and above) are welcome to take part in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah challenge and the Half Marathon distance.

Children younger than this should not take part without prior agreement from the organisers.

These are available upon request. Please email info@giantwalk.org
