On 6th September 2026, we are repeating last year’s Full or Half Marathon walk along a new Hertfordshire waterside route. The Half-Marathon option is open to anyone and aimed in particular for teens or novice distance walkers. Bar and Bat Mitzvah children in particular are welcome to take part with their parents to mark their special year. A 10km option is also available for younger walkers, supporting families and furry friends. A light lunch will be included for those taking part in the Marathon and Half-Marathon distances.
The Myisrael Giant Walk
6th September 2026
Last year we completed an epic full marathon distance walk along the Thames path – a very serene waterside day of walking whilst fundraising. Everybody felt very supported by the Giant Walk crew, and bus – so we are doing it all again!
Spaces are limited, and you can sign up as a single, or in a team of 4. There are also half-marathon and 10km distances for teens and novice walkers.
Starting from a location in Hertfordshire, there will be 3 waves of walkers, walking to and from the same parking venue along waterside stretches of flat countryside. .
- 08.30 Marathon (42km) Over 18’s
- 12.30 Half Marathon (21km) Bar and Bat Mitzvah ages upwards, all welcome*
- 15.30 10k Finish, all welcome**
*Teen walkers taking part in the 21km distance should book with a parent/adult over the age of 18.
**Suitable for all ages up to 80!
FAQs
Security Arrangements
The event has had a preliminary assessment by its organisers and the CST. It will also be registered with the local Police Authority. At present, it is classed as a very low risk event. Contingencies will continue to be monitored, and the exact location will only be disclosed to those who have booked places.
Our risk assessment contains various scenarios and how the event organisers would react to them.
Is there transport to the starting point?
This year there is no coach to the event as it is a little closer to home and has sufficient parking. The route allows for you return easily to your car at the end, or to be met by family and friends.
How do I make sure I walk with friends?
Then the best way to ensure you walk with your friends is to ensure you book for the same distance. Then you can start together and then reform as a group during breaks. Otherwise, please let us know who you would like to walk with and we will put you together (subject to maximum group size).
How can you run three events all day from one base?
Our central point is our base for the day, with plenty of parking, public facilities and WC's.
From there each of the three events will follow a separate trails into the countryside, each returning to base for a regroup, snack/lunch and the next event will start. Welfare checks will take place at every break, and you will have a unique QR Code to scan in/out of rest stops
Where can I meet my family or friends at the end?
We will provide details of the finish point, along with any cheering points, so that family and friends can come and greet you at the end of the event. The event will start and finish at its base. The base location will be announced to walkers a week before the event.
How fit do I have to be?
The full distance is a marathon walk, and you must have prepared for it. We ask that you have a good basic fitness and have undertaken some training in the run up to the event.
For the Half Marathon, some practice walks of 10-12km are recommended in the run up to the event.
A good rule of thumb for the full Marathon distance is that you should have completed at least one 20km training walk in the shoes you plan to wear on the day. It is also important that you practice changing layers of clothes on the move and train with a weighted rucksack.
What if I need the loo?
WC's along the route will be marked out in the event guide, and group mentors will know where they are.
Is it a race?
We discourage treating this event as a race, but you are welcome to time yourself. There is no chip timing- your welfare, completion of the challenge and raising of funds for Myisrael are the main priorities.
What happens if am too slow?
There are checkpoints at the rest stops along the route, where a vehicle will be waiting. If any walker is struggling to meet time checks, they may be asked to either leapfrog forward to the next point, or remain in the vehicle.
These checkpoints aim to ensure a maximum 10-hour completion time for the full marathon distance. Your welfare is being monitored both on the move and at rest stops.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a no quibble cancellation policy up to 7 days before the event, and your entry fee will be returned in full minus any platform or card fees deducted. Once inside the 7 day period, no refunds are available but you can transfer onto a future event.
Boots or trainers?
Fashion or gym trainers are not suitable, but heavy walking boots are not necessarily required as all the terrain is level and on footpaths. A good running trainer or trail shoe, or lightweight walking boots are ideal. Tips will be circulated based on the weather in the days before.
How much do I have to raise?
There is no minimum fundraising target but Myisrael asks that you set-up a fundraising page through them and circulate it to your family and friends. They will be in touch with you about this.
Young people may wish to ask for donations in lieu of presents.
How will I navigate the route?
A GPX (satnav) file will be available in advance is you want to use your Strava or Garmin. Group mentors and leaders will have this available and are tracked, and although the route is pretty straightforward, key signposts will be on site at junctions. All mentors will have GPS and radio support from Event Control and there will be chalk markings. There is also a tracking beacon on the vehicle and with the medical bag.
Can I bring my children?
Young walkers (Year 7 and above) are strongly encouraged to take part in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah challenge and complete the Half Marathon distance.
Children younger than this should only take part in the 10k final finish, where furry friends are also welcome!
Please can I see your T&C's, Risk Assessment or Insurance?
These are available upon request. Please email info@giantwalk.org
